HEY YOU PEOPLE.. LOOK WHAT YOU’VE DONE… Because it’s pretty damn awesome.

Over the past two weeks, hair clients and I have amassed a bunch of clothes to be handed out to the homeless. Together we collected (in bottoms, t shirts, button ups, sweaters, jackets) well over 100 articles of clothing that will cover the backs of people in need. Thank you so much for giving! My clients are amazing!

Since this philanthropic effort did so well, I want to extend this promotion for another week.. or two..!

Make your appointment with me this week via styleseat.com/gyeung and make a clothes donation. I’ll discount your haircut with each article of clothing. Seriously, if you bring in enough clothes, you could get a FREE cut.

Please ask about this promotion if you’re interested at all! #vscocam

I woke up early and drove 40 minutes to Santa Ana on the wrong day for cosmetology training ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ #fool #vscocam ANYWAY. This is @mariomonov with a textured combover and hard part and low taper. Bulgarian hair is so beautiful LOL

My first client today was a no show. On a cooler note, here is a scissor cut with a subtle rear taper on @junchacha. Thanks for the opportunity and the challenge! I hope I can keep improving with my shear work. Bye bye hardline and lineup. #vscocam

๐Ÿ™‹ @jphannypak… One of the first people I met at UCI. Our first conversation was about baked goods. Now she works for the POTUS. Also, I’m sporting @andrewdoeshair’s cool shirt!

I did it..! PHEW. Exactly 824 miles round trip marks the completion of my epic solo journey to and from San Francisco to finish off the California leg of Kishi Bashi’s 2014 tour!

I didn’t take pictures at any of the shows so I could bask in the glory of the moment, but here are some pics from his DJ set after The Fillmore and around the city with two of my best SF buds. Holding up that silly sign front and center paid off! He came up to me with his folded set list and signed it later for me at the Oddjob lounge in SoMa. Satisfied!

Congrats @kishi_bashi, on 1200 sold out seats at the legendary Fillmore and the Lighght release and thanks for 5 awesome shows so far!

Here are some of the cuts I’ve done in the past few weeks. Take a look at the background of these little pictures. Notice how you don’t see my car or a dusty shoe rack anymore? Moving from my garage into a salon feels like the most taxing transition right now, but it would be so sad if I pursued barbering for the sake of frugality and convenience. I’m following my dreams step by step, and this is the first big and exciting, terrifying and exhausting, step of many. My amazing supporters and clients have been a ladder for my career, and I’m forever grateful for each little boost along the way. Until the next big step, thank you so much. See you at the top! #thankyou

Meet my life hero! Some people know him as the super smart guy always holding a camera. I know him as, “Dad.” It took a long time to get him on board with the barbering thing, and his approval was supremely important to me. Here’s why.

My Dad came to the USA with my Grandma and my two Aunts when he was just a kid. They had absolutely nothing. Not a nickel in their pockets nor a lick of English in their heads to get them around. I still can’t really comprehend how it all worked out, but from scratch, my dad raised my immediate family of four. He paid his own way through school by washing dishes at restaurants and then started his own business after getting his MBA at UCI. *Zot zot* He worked his ass off to make it work for my Mom, Alison and me. His business did well enough so we could go on family vacations once or twice a year, own our own home and cars, and pay for all of mine and Alison’s education without any financial aid. All from scratch.

I’ve seen people shake their heads at the upper middle class families like my own for having it so easy. A lot of us back off as though we’re ashamed of our money. But I’ll never be ashamed of my Dad’s impossibly hard work. If he made it this big without any help, I have no excuse!

Dad’s traditional upbringing didn’t click with a career in barbering, but even more outstanding than his work ethic is his belief in me. It means the world to me that he can go from a college degree centered mindset to a craft centered mindset. I’m so glad that he asks me to cut his hair every month. It tells me that he looks past my failures and focuses on my successes. It tells me that he doesn’t think his success is better than mine. It tells me that he believes in me. Thank you, Dad!

The popular cultural paradigm is to follow your dreams despite what people say. But I think my conviction is to include the ones who believe in you in your dreams. For me, that’s definitely my Dad.
